About my role and why we chose the song

This song is definitely a love song and is the one we have chosen to do for our brief. A song about someone really loving someone. Never wanting to let that person go. Knowing you have the ability to help that someone knock down their walls. knowing you have the ability to help them and make them happy if only they would let you. Knowing you could love them unconditionally if you could just "latch on to their love".

My role within the group is to provide the actors with their costumes and props. In the first scene at the train station, I need to provide rhyce with the beats headphones. I then need to provide lucy with things such as her winter mits/gloves and her handbag. We are going to be recording in the park soon and depending on the weather, this is how the outfits will be planned because both times that we've recorded, the temperature has not be the hottest so our actors have had to wrap up warm.

I am also going to help out with recording on the came. I have to look closely at some of the shots used in the video 'latch' its self. A lot of the angles and shots used were close up's from the waist upwards. There was also shots taken from far away so that i now know i need to mix up my camera angles and shots throughout our music video which will then be similar to the actual video.

We took our main actor Rhyce down one of the alley ways which was a location we chose to shoot at for our draft video. We are following the theme of the sad love song and the actor should give an impression as to how he looks lonely walking by himself then he finally meets the girl of his dreams. A lonely dark atmosphere helps to get this impression across!

Location pictures

Lastnight I went on a trip to Birkenhead park and took many pictures of one of the locations for our music video. The shots I took were all of different angles and some of the images show what it looks like when someone's standing there personally. For example, the bridge, I stood on it and took a shot so I could see exactly what I was going to be working with in the future! All the shots that I took were romantic places that you are more than likely to go on a walk to with a date. For example, the rocks, then the boat house then the red bridge. This links in with the song 'latch' because that's a romantic song and I feel I have taken pictures of the right images in relation to my music video which will be created soon

reason behind the location

Our song 'Latch' by Sam Smith is a love song so when deciding the location, we tried to have it in a romantic kind of area. Maybe somewhere that you would go on a date to. First of all, we are starting in the train station where the couple meet. This is like any couple out there, they could meet that special person anywhere so this is why we thought of the train station. Next we will move on to the location either of the liverpool docks were there are pretty blue lights surrounding the water front which again makes the location look romantic and where you and your boyfriend/girlfriend would go on a walk along. We will then be moving to the boat house in Birkenhead. I would say this is more of an area were someone would just sit and talk with their date because its quite a quiet area. These above are the reasons behind our chosen location and I really hope we can make them effective when it comes to recording our music video!

location shots

We only have an simple and a few images of our chosen locations but in the half time I plan to go to some of these locations to take shots for example, I can easily get pictures of the boat house in Birkenhead where as it's slightly harder for me to go to Newbrighton to take shots of some of the locations as it's quite hard to get over there and out of my way so that is where the group work comes into it. Lucy, Rhyce and Kayleigh can take shots of NewBrighton where they live and I can do Birkenhead shots.

second meeting

We held a group meeting to discuss more planning and decided our song choice to create our video so at least we have this sorted. We also have now nearly completed our story board and can continue to adjust and change this in the future for any adjustments we make to the actual video which we haven't added to our story board.

We then decided and arranged our places to shoot and take pictures of our chosen locations. we will be filming at different times in the day so need to be aware of how each location looks at different times of the day.

This is the song we have chosen to do and it is a love song. A song about someone really loving someone. Never wanting to let that person go. We have chosen to do this song simply because we all like this song and feel we can produce a good story behind the song.

first meeting

In our meeting today, as a group we decided and created our group logo style and our company name. In the next session we plan to decide what song/music video we are going to concentrate on. Hopefully, once we have done this, then we can start drawing and writing out our storyboard in order to get closer to the start draft of filming.

We decided to call our company 'KKRL'. We thought this suited our group best as we was running out of time to think of a company name and it represents each member in our groups first name.
Kirstie
Kayleigh
Rhyce
Lucy.
This shows that everyone in the group have full involvement and contribution when it came to a company logo and name.

5-group meetings

We have chosen to hold our meetings on a Monday morning in the common room when it is empty. We have chosen to do it on a Monday because it is a fresh week and reminds us how much time we have left till the deadline. These meetings will help us recap on our progress, help push each on if we are behind time and plan ahead for what we are next going to do in the future weeks.

4. roles within the group

Deciding our roles was fairly easy due to each others strengths within the group. My role is to be a director as i'm very bossy but also like to give advice when it comes to filming. I will also be in charge of the props. Each one of the four of us in my group will have a part in the music video when we get round to planning that.

Lucy is going to be in charge of the costumes used, the location set. Rhyce is going to be the camera man and kayleigh is going to be the post production. Kayleigh will also be the main actor along with me, Lucy and Rhyce all filling in the other roles needed. We have chosen Kayleigh as our main actor due to her confidence in front of the camera and is not shy to over perform.

2. Coursework brief

As a group, we sat down and had the discussion that we wanted to do either brief one or two as both of which looked fun. Either the music video or the film trailer. We came to the conclusion to do the music video as we had that we wouldn't be the best actors for the film trailer and not many of us had much experience in drama. We chose to do the music video as the process to create it will be fun as we go along. We are also big fans of pop music and have seen many videos which will help when re creating ours.

1. deciding on our groups

As a class, we decided who were going to work with who. In my group there is me, Lucy Skeggs, Rhyce Galer and Kayleigh Allen. I believe working with these people brings out the best in me and feel that we all have different strengths and skills to bring to the group.

Brief 3)

Brief 3 is all about creating an advertisement for a new product, so for this, I had to research many different adverts, compare them to one another and decide which one would be easiest ro re-create.

First of all, I looked at the haribo advert which is shown alot on my television. This one looks very simple to do, only requiring 6 people wearing smart buisness clothes with the props being a bag of haribo and the location being set in a buisness/meeting room. To recreate this, I would just use 6 people from my sixthform who have to wear smart wear anyway and then use a meeting room in the sixthform building to match the location of the ad.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9scm3NCIH_E

Loreal paris true match foundation: This advert is again, rather simple as only one person is involved with a face of makeup standing there looking pretty. The camera angle always uses a closeup shot to show the detail to reach the target audience for this advert and for this advert, the audience is those interested in their skin and tose who wear makeup themselves. Not many effects are involved in this so creating this advert again to this level of standard shouldn't be too complicated due to the time period it would take to do it in as it would not take long.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNkHHUBUYnw

The last advert I looked at was the Nike advert. This advert goes on for 4 minutes so would take a lot of time to re create this. The first part of the advert starts on a grass pitch, similiar to our school football pitch with an 11 vs 11 setup of players who all transform into main footballers such as Ronaldo, Neymar and Rooney. The next part of the advert then moves on to a football stadium with thousands of fans in the chairs which then put me kff the idea of re creating this sdvert due to how hard it would be and where would I get that many people from. This is when I realised that this type of advet could not be peformed by me due to its complesity.

Brief 2)

Brief 2 is looking slightly appealing to me due to its not overly complicated task. Basically, you have to create a film trailer for any type of film genre and there are many to choose from but must take into consideration whats behind them all, the length of time they would take to be re created and the effects used throught the trailer.

Starting off with horror, my favourite of all movie genres, some can be simple but some can be really complex.
HORROR

SAW 1: This film is a complete no no due to its props and effects used. This is one of the more gorey programmes with lots of blood and death involved. Some of the props used are things like metal head traps, similar to a bear trap but for the head, lots of chains, hooks under the skin, gas, a video recorder, a hacksaw and many many more items used to bring lots of pain to the victim. Each film used different locations throughout and for every person involved, say there was like main characters, then they would make these characters complete a task in a new room every time so the location would be very hard to match the movie. Lastly the effects used, were incredible and I also couldn't match this because they wanted to give us full detail of each victims killings, blood everywhere, flashing lights and many other different type of affects.
https://m.youtube.com/results?q=saw%201%20movie%20trailer&sm=1

The second film trailer I researched was Annabelle, this was pretty simple and I think I would have a good go at re doing this simply because Not many effects were involved, maybe a few flashing lights which could be done using the drama studio at school. Then there was the location, which was just set in one house and lastly the main prop used was a big doll. This would be easy to get a hold of and I think that I would lean towards this film to recreate.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh_5zY42zJw

The last film I researched was 'The Exorcist'. This is to complicated when looking at the effects side of things. Again, much blood is involved and the many throwing of people is involved. Also, the main girl involved 'emily' floats off the bed, runs down the stairs backwards in an all fours position and at the beginning off the film, her and the bed shakes, so we would need to some good resources and programmes if we were to recreate this films effects. Next is the location, it varies from the film being set in a house, to a doctors room, to a churce to a meeting room. The only simple thing really in this film would be the props, so a small cross used by the pirest to try and get the devil out of Emily, a bed, and a needle used by the doctor.

COMEDY:

Project X: After watching this film, it is my favourite comedy out there but to re create this is more a less impossible. The film is one big house party which gets out of hand, things included in this film are the partiers locking a dwarf in an oven, robbing ecstasy from a neighbour, tazaring neighbours, driving the parents car into the swimming pool ect. The house which this film is set in is similar to a mansion along with all the neighbours on a large street. Too many people are involved in this also because they go to school/college and the super market to tell people about there party and to go along to it. The effects used are amazing and would be very hard to create this movie with the effects, from the lighting used.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=c2fsYheE1yY

TED: This is a movie I would look into doing. It looks fun to recreate and is quite basic, Ted (the teddy bear) is the main prop used by the son whose teddy bear this belongs to. Ted is also a character involved too. At near enough every scene, not many people are involved which is why I think this would be easier to do than a movie which involved too many people because thats when things start to get complicated. The effects used are very basic and it remains in natural lighting apart from mid way through the movie when a flash of lightening is created. The location is mianly in the house so if we were to create this in our group, we would all need to set a time and date to meet at ones house to use for the location.

OCR research of the briefs. 1)

I have looked through the OCR sheets on the first 12 briefs. I have crossed out which ones I really did not want to do after doing the research of them individually.

For my briefs, I have chosen to look at brief 1 and 2 and 10.

Brief 1.
  • Over the past few weeks I had been doing work which was pretty similar to this music video based on the location of where it was shot and the camera angles used. Another thing which I had to take into account was the type of music I wanted to do for which in this case is Pop music. I chose this simply because its location is simple but effective. The whole music video is based inside a house with natural light. If i was to have to make my own music video in this style then it would be a very easy location to get a-hold of.
  • The camera angles used are very basic and vary from a head shot, a close up and a long range shot from a short distance which again is easy to do as its not completely advanced and complicated when it came down to the angles. The young girl dancer is the main focus of the video and this is because she's the only person that stars in this music clip.
  • Lastly, the costumes and props used were very simple. The young girl was dressed in a plain leotard which are easy to get a hold of and the props used were those that were already in the house such as the chair and table and then the curtains which she held on to.

Another clip I have also added is Taylor Swifts song 'Shake it off". This is a good example for this brief as it would be very easy to recreate. The only thing is, I need many many dancers. This can easily be done by getting a group of dancers together from my school. Another thing which requires quite a bit of time is all the outfits used. Many of the outfits worn, people would already own, maybe just not the feathered leotard and the silver tracksuit worn by the lad dancer.

5. Our short movie trailer

Things we did well:

-First of all, the whole of our group got on well and there was never any negativity to one another wen giving opinions on how to improve the short trailer. This was also good when it came to deciding what roles to take upon our selves and encouraging one another I take it by telling that person what useful skills they brought to the group.

-With the short period of time allocated, we used it efficiently to ensure we finished the trailer to it's deadline day. We done this by simple quick planning and how well we managed our time so on the day, made sure we were all free to produce the short trailer.

Things to change and improve on for the future:

-For the main task, we are going to need to film in more than one place. We will do this though by reasearching and finding more information out about our task we choose to do. This will help make our decision on the places we need to film in/at.
-We should of really, recorded some speech to put over or include in the trailer as its quite plain and you'd have to of watched the trailer 'lucy' to understand what was going on.

-Lastly, our group as a whole could just have more practice and rehearsal time with one another and the more practice then the more professional it would look.

4. Editing - Using iMovie - Effects - Music - Sound effects etc

When editing the many shots that we took, we used a programme called I-movie which was already installed onto the I-mac computers that our group and class used. This programme enabled us to merge out shots together smoothly and professionally. This programme allows you to add many different things to your shots from sound effects, music, text ect. This programme also allowed us to cut short pieces out of the shots.

As a group, we worked through the editing together. We done this by circling around a computer to help one another for those who weren't so familiar to the programme. We all gave our own opinions on how to make the shot better and each one of us listened to one another in the group when it came to this. Each one of us have good editing skills so this was a good skill to have as a group when it came down to the editing side of things.

3. Filming: Location - Actors -Props- Camera angles etc

Location:We tried to make our location where we filmed as real to the film "lucy" as possible. We only had a short time limit on the task that we had to complete so had to think of a place to film sharply so we chose to film inside which meant it was not a busy and crowded area and we did not have people walking through and around where and what we needed to film. An example of this is, one of our shots needed to have an opening and closing door so this room with the door had to be kept free enabling us to film.

Camera angles: seen as it was many of our first times back on the professional cameras in a while, it took us individually a few shots/minutes to understand the cameras again which we all quickly figured out. Many on the shots, we filmed 3-4 times just to make sure we had that perfect shot ensuring and that there were no mistakes within them. Having many shots also enabled us to have a large variety to choose from when it came to editing and then to our final and finished clip,

Props: We simply used 2 main props. The first being a bandage and the second being a jacket. The bandage used was just a spare white tea towel from the kitchen and kayleigh provided us with the jacket used.

2. story board

When drawing our story board we had to decide who was going to draw the pictures. None of us are perfect artists but we wanted to make the pictures as clear as possible and easily understandable so chose Chloe Francom to draw ours as she is the best artist out of the four of us. The idea of the story board was to pick out scenes in the trailer "lucy" and enable us to recreate them in our version. Due to the time limit, we hadn't actually managed to act out every single frame from our story board. We chose the first 12 shots of the trailer and all in all this lasted about 30 seconds altogether.

Task 1- deciding the roles within our group

Our group chose to focus on the film trailer released earlier this year "lucy" and to recreate the first 30 seconds or so of the trailer. I based my decision of my role in the group on what my strength was in the group compared to the other peoples strengths. For example, I do a lot of ICT work which results in me having good editing skills. In our group though, many of us performed different roles throughout. An example of this was Chloe francom in our group started out as the main character being the actress but later recognised this position was not right for her so we had another volunteer within the group. This person had done much drama before in her past so suited this role a whole lot better.

Our group also had someone in charge of the props and costumes used throughout so the bandage and jacket used was planned to be brought by a specific person. We also had different people play the role of the director as everyone in our group has good leadership skills and thought it was right to give and let everyone within have an input and say.
